What Floor Color Do I Choose?

HARDWOOD FLOOR COLOR

There are many factors involved in choosing the right hardwood floor color. What should be an enjoyable and inspiring process sometimes becomes a daunting task. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. CHOOSE A COLOR THAT WILL ENHANCE YOUR SPACE

Light Color Floors- Modern and timeless, light colors work great for smaller spaces and low ceilings as it creates an illusion of a bigger area. Light colors make the space appear bright and cheery.

Medium Color Floors- Warm and traditional, medium tones are great for a homey atmosphere. Medium colors help to cover blemishes or imperfections in the wood.

Dark Color Floors- Rich and dramatic, dark tones are great for large areas. Although stunning, keep in mind that darker colors tend to show dust.

2. SAMPLE AND TEST

This is probably the hardest step of the process. Finding the perfect color that you have been envisioning in your head sometimes proves challenging. Make sure to sample and test on the wood type of your floor. Stains can look dramatically different depending on the wood species. The final look of your floor will also need to complement paint colors and lighting.

3. FINISH SHEEN

Choose a sheen that works best for your lifestyle. Maintenance, setting and location are things to keep in mind when choosing the sheen.

Gloss: Reflects light and has a shiny, elegant appearance. Shows imperfections and dust. Repair is not easy.

Maintenance level: HIGH

Semi-Gloss: Has some reflection of light and shine. Dust and footprints are not too noticeable.

Maintenance level: MEDIUM

Satin: One of the most popular and classic sheen. Compliments with all stain colors and is easy to maintain.

Maintenance level: LOW to MEDIUM

Matte or Ultra Matte: Dull, non-reflecting finish. Increasingly popular in modern settings and is very easy to maintain. Keeps the natural look and feel of wood.

Maintenance level: LOW
